On the 15th of October 2013, the license for the gold mining project in Corcoesto was cancelled. However, the company is planning to appeal the decision and some activists believe that the project was cancelled partly for economic reasons, due to the dropping value of gold, and that it could be restarted should the price recover in the future.

In 2011, the Canadian company Edgewater asked for permission to develop a 700 ha gold mine in Galicia. This openpit project was to operate over 13 years (including 3 years for infrastructure construction and 2 years for restoration activities), with plans to extract a total amount of 1,095,000 ounces of gold.
The Corcoesto gold project is located in northwest Spain, about 36km westsouthwest of the port city of La Coru#241;a in the Galician Autonomous Community. The project is in the advanced stage of exploration, with a 12,000m drilling program progressing on schedule. Directed at extending the existing resource base, the drilling began in October 2010.
